Sample Quilt Layouts

Cut as follows:

Fabric	Cutting Information
Neutral	Cut 5 3-1/2" square Cut 6 4" squares Cut 1 1-1/2"x21" strip Cut 2 1-1/2"x13" strips
Medium/Dark	Cut 6 4" squares Cut 2 1-1/2"x21" strips Cut 1 1-1/2"x13" strip

Sewing Instructions:

1. Mark diagonal on wrong side of 4" Neutral squares; match Neutral squares to each Medium/Dark squares with right sides together; stitch 1/4" on either side of the diagonal mark; cut apart on diagonal mark; press toward Medium/Dark...Square up to 3-1/2".
   
2. Attach a 1-1/2"x21" strip of Medium/Dark to either side of same size Neutral strip...press toward Medium/Dark. Cut 4 3-1/2" units and 4 1-1/2" units from new strip.
   
3. Attach a 1-1/2"x13" strip of Neutral to either side of same size Medium/Dark strip...press toward Medium/Dark. Cut 8 1-1/2" units from new strip.
   
4. Attach a 1-1/2" wide unit from step#3 to either side of same size unit from step#2...press either way...square up to 3-1/2".
   
5. Making 2 rows: join units as shown...pressing in direction of arrows.
   
6. Making 2 rows: join units as shown...pressing in direction of arrows.
   
7. Join a row from step#5 to a row from step#6 to make 2 new units...press either way.
   
8. Making 1 row: join units as shown...pressing in direction of arrows.
   
9. Attach a unit from step#7 to either side of row from step#8...press either way.
   
10. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 15-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.
