Sample Quilt Layouts

Cut as follows:

Fabric	Cutting Information
Light#1 (L1)	Cut 1 strip 3-1/2" wide by 15" long
Medium/Dark (MD)	Cut 1 strip 3-1/2" wide by 15" long
Light#2 (L2)	Cut 1 strip 2" wide by 17" long Cut 4 3-1/2" squares
Medium (M)	Cut 1 strip 2" wide by 17" long

Sewing Instructions:

1. Join 2"x17" strips of L2 and M to create strata unit. Press toward M. Cut strata into 8 2" units. Attach a pair of units together to create 4 4-patch units. Square up to 3-1/2".
   
2. Attach a 3-1/2" square of L2 to 4-patch units. Press toward L2.
   
3. Join units from step#2 in pairs. Press either way. Square up to 6-1/2".
   
4. Join 3-1/2"x15" strips of L1 and MD to create strata unit. Press toward M. Cut strata into 4 3-1/2" units. Attach a pair of units together to create 2 4-patch units. Square up to 6-1/2".
        
5. Attach unit from step#4 to a unit from step#3 as shown. Press toward larger 4-patch unit.
   
6. Join units from step#5 together to create block.
7. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 12-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.
