Capitol T Block
Capitol T Block

This is one of my favorite blocks...as you know if you have looked at the Weekend Whatever mystery! There are many variations that can be done with the colors...I like this one! You need 4 fabrics for this block: a WOW, or white, a light, a medium and a dark. We will be making this one 12" finished.

Sewing Instructions:

  1. Mark diagonal on wrong side of all 2-1/2" squares of Dark; match to one end of the Light and Background 2-1/2"x4-1/2" rectangles; stitch on the diagonal; press open toward corner. Repeat on other end. Join a unit of Light with a unit of Background together as shown...press toward Background unit. Square up to 4-1/2". You may want to trim the seam to 1/4" if you plan to handquilt to remove some bulk.
  2. Mark diagonal on the wrong side of the 5" squares of Light; match right sides together with Medium 5" squares; stitch 1/4" on either side of the diagonal mark; cut apart on diagonal mark; press toward Medium fabric. Square up to 4-1/2".
  3. Attach an HST to either side of a double goose unit...watch orientation...creating 2 rows. Press toward HSTs.
  4. Attach last 2 double goose units to either side of 4-1/2" square of Background. Press toward center square.
  5. Attach a row from step#3 to either side of row from step#4 to create block as shown. Press seams toward outer rows.
  6. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 12-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.

This is what your block might look like.
