easy attic windows
Easy Attic Windows

I found this pattern in a book once and thought it would work for those of us who hate to do "Y" seams. The window frames will be done in Dark Blue (navy, deep royal) and Medium Blue; and the "windows" will be done in a floral print. Please do the frames in a "solid" looking fabric such as marblized or tone-on-tones. The florals can be any size or color flowers. We will be making this one 9" finished.

Sample Quilt Layouts

You need to cut as follows:

  1. Floral: cut 1 6-1/2" square
  2. Medium/Dark: cut 1 3-1/2"x6-1/2" rectangle; cut 1 3-7/8"x3-7/8" square - then cut in half diagonally (this will give you the corners for 2 blocks)

Sewing Instructions:

  1. Carefully sew the medium triangle to the dark triangle; press toward dark.
  2. Sew the dark rectangle to the floral print; press toward dark.
  3. Sew the medium rectangle to the medium side of the half-triangle square; press toward medium rectangle.
  4. Sew floral unit to medium rectangle unit; press toward floral unit.
  5. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 9-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.

This is what your block might look like.
